In Case the Take-Home-Page didn't make it home this week. This is what we talked about in RAKlets on May 31, 2013:

The Church Proclaims the Gospel - The Gospel is the good news that Jesus died to pay the price for sin -- Peter & John Preach the Gospel- Acts 4:1-22

May31

This week we talked about the most important thing that the church does and learned that the most important thing for Christians to do and the most important thing for the church to do, is to proclaim the gospel.... to tell people the good news that Jesus died to pay the price for sin.

FAMILY-WORSHIP-TIME:

Here are some ideas for your family-worship this week. Read more about family worship here.

  • Day 1- Read Acts 3:1-16 - - The background for our story this week was that Peter had healed a crippled man. How did he explain how he was able to do this? Act out the story of the healing and the people’s reaction to the healing.

  • Day 2- Read Acts 4:1-22 - - This was our main story for the week. How did Peter explain the healing? What did Peter tell them about Jesus? Based on verse 20, what should be the priority for Christians?

  •
Day 3-Read Genesis 3- - This week we talked a lot about the good news and how the news of Jesus dying on the cross is only good news if you know the rest of the story. How does this story of the first sin help you understand why Jesus‘ death is good news? Read Romans 6:23 to explain it even more. Pretend that you are a news reporter and either write a news article or present a news report to your family explaining why we all need to be saved.

  • Day 4- Read Philippians 2:6-11 - - Still thinking about needing to know the rest of the story to understand the good news, how do these verses explain Jesus. Make a list of what these verses teach us about who Jesus is and what Jesus did? Where do you see the good news in these verses?

  • Day 5- Read Acts 4:12, John 14:6, John 3:36, 1 Timothy 2:5-6
& Romans 10:9 - - What do all of these verses have in common? Basically all of these verses teach us that Jesus is the only way to be saved. Choose one of these verses and write in in the middle of a piece of paper. Then, illustrate the verse and use it to explain the good news of Jesus to someone. Make sure to think back to other things that you read this week and include the rest of the story....why do we need to be saved? what to we need to be saved from? why can’t we save ourselves?

IDEAS FOR THE LITTLE ONES (age 0-4):

Read this great article to see that the Gospel is also important for your Toddler: The Gospel Matters for Your Toddler.

  • THIS WEEKS STORY: Peter Teaches About Jesus- Acts 3-4

Who remembers what the last thing was that Jesus told His disciples to do? Jesus told them to go everywhere and tell everyone about Him.

What kinds of things were they supposed to tell people? (1) God made the world, (2) Jesus Came to Earth, (3) Jesus Died on the cross to pay for our sin, (4) 3 days later Jesus came back to life, so we can live with Him forever.

Jesus told His disciples to tell people about Him and when they did that, lots of people believed in Jesus. All of the people who believed in Jesus were called the church. The most important thing for the church to do was tell people about Jesus.

One of the people in this first church who knew how important it was to tell people about Jesus was Peter. Peter was always ready to tell people the good news about Jesus.

One day Peter healed a man. This man couldn’t walk and Peter told him to get up and walk and he did. The people who saw this were amazed. They couldn’t believe that Peter could make this man walk again. Peter told them that he didn’t do it, but that Jesus made the man walk again.

The teachers and other important people in town told Peter to stop talking about Jesus or they would get in trouble. But, Peter didn’t listen. He knew it was more important to listen to Jesus and Jesus told him to tell everyone about Him.

Peter kept talking about Jesus all the time.

  • Play Telephone- Sit in a circle on the floor. Remind them that Jesus commanded people to tell others about Him. Explain that you’re going to say a truth about Jesus in one kids’ ear and then they should repeat the same message. Remind them that in the story they just heard that the most important thing that the church does is to tell people the Good News that Jesus came to earth and died on the cross for our sin.

  • Learn the Memory Verse

But you - - point to friends
will receive power - - strong arms
when the Holy Spirit comes on you; - - 2 hands above your head and descend to your head and you - - point to friends
will be my witnesses - - cup hands around mouth as if speaking
in Jerusalem - - point down
and in all Judea and Samaria, - - point around the room
and to the ends of the earth.- - make a big circle with your arms
    Acts 1:8
